PFSA Enlists Support For “Recovering Families” On Giving Tuesday

GIVING TUESDAY November 28 – Give to PFSA to #ProtectPAKids

(Harrisburg, PA) – November 28 – Give to PFSA to #ProtectPAKids Programs bolster parenting skills in recovery from addiction/Helps grandparents raising children.HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance (PFSA), the state leader in child abuse prevention and child protection, calls on all Pennsylvanians to help keep kids safe from abuse and neglect by earmarking their #GivingTuesday donations on November 28 to PFSA. Giving Tuesday is an international day set aside for individuals, businesses, and organizations to make charitable contributions to programs that promote the greater good. PFSA, a statewide 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, strives to create a world where every child can grow and thrive free from abuse and neglect.

“Last year, we lost 46 innocent children in Pennsylvania due to abuse and neglect and morethan 4,500 other kids were victims of maltreatment. This is a preventable public health epidemic that requires each of us to act,” said Angela Liddle, president and CEO of PFSA. “Giving Tuesday offers all Pennsylvanians an opportunity to invest in helping parents and grandparents nurture the children they are raising and protect them from harm. I ask you, please, to contribute to the vital mission of PFSA because every kid needs a champion!”

PFSA partners with local agencies to help parents and grandparents develop the skills and
strategies they need to raise children in a safe and loving environment. PFSA also pioneers a new parenting program, “Recovering Families,” that helps mothers and fathers in recovery from substance use disorder balance the demands of both recovery and children, and offers strategies for positive parenting in recovery. PFSA’s goal for #GivingTuesday is to raise $5,000 to fund these specialized programs that build stronger family ties.

“The best first step in preventing child abuse is good, strong parenting. Clearly, the opioid
epidemic has wreaked havoc on families and left far too many children in danger of maltreatment,” Liddle noted. “Our parenting-support and Recovering Families outreach
help ensure that the most positive influences for children can be their parents and grandparents. We welcome Pennsylvanians to join us by investing in our children’s well-being through PFSA.”

PA Family Support Alliance also trains mandated reporters, those professionals and volunteers who are required to report suspected abuse to ChildLine, the state’s 24/7 hotline. It’s essential that these individuals be able to identify child abuse and take the proper steps to report it.

PFSA’s “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse” training is approved by the PA departments
of State, Education, and Human Services, and is available in English and Spanish.

“Thanksgiving is a time to count our blessings and children are our greatest gift. Let the children of Pennsylvania know they have a champion. Make an online donation to PFSA for
Giving Tuesday at www.pa-fsa.org,” said Liddle.
