PA youth raises funds to support PFSA’s mission to protect children

Pa Family Support Alliance (PFSA) is continually inspired by the many ways individuals and families across Pennsylvania come together to support children and strengthen families. One remarkable example comes from Chelsea Whispell, a young advocate whose creativity and compassion are making a meaningful impact.
During National Child Abuse Prevention Month this past April, Chelsea organized a T-shirt fundraiser to raise awareness about child abuse prevention. With support from her mother, Trisha Whispell, a social work educator at Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in Sunbury, Chelsea designed and sold shirts to friends, family, and community members.
Chelsea raised $250 with a simple, yet powerful, goal: to raise awareness and give back by donating the proceeds to PFSA, helping to protect children and strengthen families across Pennsylvania.
The fundraiser was more than just a project: it was a reflection of Chelsea’s leadership and dedication to helping others. Her initiative also supports her efforts to earn the Silver Torch award as part of the Girl Scouts Cadettes program, a recognition that honors community involvement, advocacy, and service.
We are honored that Chelsea chose to donate the proceeds from her T-shirt sales to PFSA, helping to fund vital programs that educate families, train mandated reporters, and support communities in protecting Pennsylvania’s children.
“It’s truly heartwarming to see young people like Chelsea take action for a cause that matters,” said Angela Liddle, PFSA president and CEO. “Her creativity and compassion remind us that everyone, no matter their age, can make a difference in the lives of children.”
Chelsea’s generosity and leadership embody what PFSA stands for: empowering individuals and communities to nurture safe, loving environments for all children. Her contribution not only supports our prevention work but also spreads an important message: child abuse prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
To Chelsea and Trisha: thank you for turning awareness into action and for reminding us all that small acts of kindness can create big waves of change.
