Mount Union Educator Named PA Blue Ribbon Champion for Safe Kids

Harrisburg, Pa.– Pa Family Support Alliance (PFSA), the state’s leader in child abuse prevention, today awarded Kristen C. Streightiff, M.Ed. of Huntingdon County with its PA Blue Ribbon Champion for Safe Kids Award. This award is presented annually to four individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support and protect Pennsylvania’s children from abuse. Pictures, videos, interviews and short b-roll clips from today’s flag planting and award ceremony can be found here.

Streightiff is the Director of Student Services for the Mount Union Area School District, where she oversees special education, pupil services, behavioral health programming, threat assessment, and district-wide equity initiatives. With 28 years of experience in education, she has served as a classroom teacher, assistant high school principal, and district-level administrator. Streightiff is also the co-founder of the Huntingdon County Endangered and At-Risk Youth Response Team (H.E.A.R.T.), a collaborative initiative that strengthens communication and coordinated responses among schools, law enforcement, and human services to better protect vulnerable youth. Throughout her career, she has been deeply committed to trauma-informed practices, interagency collaboration, and building systems of support for students and families.

She is married to Huntingdon Borough Police Chief Charles Streightiff, who was recognized as a Blue Ribbon Champion in 2023.

“Kristen’s leadership exemplifies what it means to put children first,” said Angela Liddle, president and CEO of Pa Family Support Alliance. “Her unwavering commitment to trauma-informed care, collaboration across systems, and the safety and well-being of Pennsylvania’s children makes her truly deserving of this honor. Kristen doesn’t just respond to challenges — she builds lasting solutions that strengthen families and communities.”

In honor of this accomplishment, PFSA and Laval Miller-Wilson, Deputy Secretary, Office of Children, Youth & Families for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services recognized Streightiff in front of a packed audience of lawmakers, members of the media, child advocates, and students in the Capitol Rotunda.

PFSA was joined by Deputy Secretary Miller-Wilson, Chief Deputy Attorney General Angela Sperrazza, and local and state elected officials during today’s ceremony, which kicks off National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each year, PFSA, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, hosts activities and events throughout the Commonwealth to increase awareness about the need for individuals to learn about the warning signs of abuse and neglect

Data from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services’ most recent Annual Child Protective Services Report shows there were 4,756 confirmed cases of child abuse statewide, including 60 fatalities and 82 near-fatalities.
